RESUME The supporting programme, according to the partial aims, has different levels and forms. Programmes for inventarising and assessment mostly aim at spotting the hidden or unrecognised valuable heritage, averting its deterioration and helping in saving it for the future. The programmes are already going on in Transylvania (Romania, and the will be started experimentally in the Vajdaság (Yugoslavia) and the Mura region (Slovenia). Aiding the restoration of individual monuments is aimed at preserving such buildings which, on the one hand need urgent intervention because of their value and physical condition and, on the other hand, are such, significant ones which are cherished not only by the professionals but are important for wider groups of society. (E.g. the cathedral in Gyulafehérvár or the Lázár palace in Gyergyószárhegy.) In the case of such centuries-old buildings which are decaying and will disappear because preservation is impossible (deceased church and village communities, a fatal lack of financial means) thorough documentation is the only way, and this is the aim of the "Programme for the assessment of decaying ecclesiastic heritage".
