MŰHELY - Tóth Sándor: A felsőörsi préposti templom nyugati kapuja

Sándor TÓTH THE WEST PORTAL OF THE COLLEGIATE CHURCH AT FELSŐÖRS The article is attached to an other that appeared before 20 years and presented the tower of the church. In the course of a detailed analyse is here the particular complex of matter concerning the portal discussed: the results of the discoveries during the last restauration of the church in 1962-65, the problem of the geometric construction, the relation to interior and exterior and the consequences of this in regard to the history of the building, the composition and iconography of the reliefs at the tympanum, lintel and capitals, the position in the history of art. It turns out as probability, that the tower was planned at the outset without entrance, and supplied with the portal just after the completion of the ground-floor, surely in connection with a new facade design that resulted in the now visible, both square stories spanning, cruciform arrangement of the apertures. The proportions of the arches at the cornice of the lower facade story, laying above the floor level of the gallery, are already adjusted to the from the central axis slightly shifted position of the portal. Nor the zone of the capitals at the portal is homogenous: the middle workpiece on both sides (out of three) is prepared to a different kind of relation. The iconographie interprétation of the reliefs is at most roughly possible. The parallels are both in this and in stylistic relation remote and scattered, substantially in the domestic current connected with the buildings in the castle of Esztergom at the end of the twelfth century. But in contrast with this trend which shows an inclination towards Gothic, presents the to the age of Bartholomew, bishop of Veszprém (1226-44), attachable portal, as the whole church also, an obstinate insistence on partially archaistic Romanesque formulae. In its type is this portal one of the antecedents of that to be found at the surroundings of Genoa, on the front of the family burial church of the Fieschi, the building of which, promoted by pope Innocent IV, take place between 1244 and 1252.
