MŰHELY - Rostás Tibor: A besztercei volt minorita, ma görög katolikus templom

The Minorites had been mentioned in Beszterce in 1268. The building was most probably begun with the apse and finished with the main facade, as it was usual. Stylistic characteristics are proving this here: the apse is early Gothic, Cistercian, while the facade is showing element of high Gothic architecture. The nave of the church was not built by the workshop of Kerc. On the basis of stylistic connections the building of the nave must have taken place in the 5G"s-60's. There were three important rebuilding: the first was the vaulting of the nave together with the rebuilding of the monastery. The dates carved on the eastern buttress of the southern side gave the date of vaulting (MDXX.). The photo of the Lux bequest made at the time of pulling down the monastery shows the fragments remained there. A few among them is early Gothic and Baroque, but most of them is late Gothic. There is a Renaissance fragment with the date 1525, so the rebuilding of the monastery had most probably begun following the vaulting of the nave. Its style was characterised by Renaissance details together with late Gothic elements. He second rebuilding must have begun in the 1700'. The interior of the church was turned to Baroque, the apse got a storey. The vaulting of the nave was also changed. The monastery was also rebuilt, as it was shown on the photos. The building complex got to the ownership of the Greek Orthodox Church in 1895. With pulling down the monastery the southern wall of the church became free. In the axis of the western facade a Neogothic porch was built, a Neogothic iconostasion was placed in front of the apse. The date of this rebuilding is carved on the eastern buttress of the southern side, below the date of 1520.
