ing the leader of the local museum unsuitable for the task - who chose the objects to be preserved, and gave them to the museum's collection. The Lázár archaeological collection in Celldömölk could be preserved - at least what remained of it. Voit got acquainted there with doctor Lajos Smidt (Smiedt), a well-known collector in Vas county, whom he appointed to curator in the county. He was not able to get to Sárvár and Ikervár as the castle buildings became Russian army resorts. The Bezerédy castle built in Empire style in Szentivánfa and its furniture was destroyed by the Hungarian nazi. The furniture of Vép castle was recollected by the owner, count Sándor Erdődy. He placed them at families in the villages, and with Voit's help, in the oratory of the local church. Visiting Bakófa and Somlyóvár (in Erdődy possession) and then Rum he experienced destruction everywhere. He commenced an investigation in Szentgotthárd, where objects from different parts of the country were taken to. As a result of that it was made clear that the objects were taken to Germany. Russian troops destroyed everything in the Batthyány castle in Körmend - the art collection was stolen, the armoury destroyed, the paintings of the ancestors' gallery cut to pieces. As a result of the personal intervention of the principal János Kőszegi, parts of the princely archive remained to us. In the Felsőbüki Nagy castle in Alsópaty almost everything was destroyed, while certain pieces of the Szapáry castle were preserved. The paintings of Peresznye had been taken away by the owner earlier and in Nagycenk the library, paintings and furniture of the Széchenyi family were annihilated. In Sopron he charged Endre Csatkai, director of the museum with the supervision of the city and the county. Two private collections - the Storno and the Zettl — remained. However, the Töppler collection was destroyed, and some objects of the City Museum were damaged. The collection of the Benedictines was stolen by the Germans, although the archaeological collection of the Protestants was scattered, the paintings were partly preserved. It was impossible to get to Fertőd castle, its furniture was taken away by inhabitants of the village. The churches of Kapuvár and Csorna, and the furniture of the Premonstratensian monastery were preserved, and the same applied to religious objects in Győr. Here Ferenc Bay, director of the Archive was appointed to be in contact with him. Pál Voit was not able to get to Hédervár castle and Mosonmagyaróvár, as they had no enough fuel. He closes his report with the following: "I could state the destruction of 80 % of the monuments in the region, without any hope of diminishing this rate and eliminating the existing danger of destruction".
