Hilda Horváth ELEMÉR KŐSZEGHY: LIST OF MOVABLE MONUMENTS Departments of Monuments, Museum of Applied Arts The manuscript bequest of Elemér Kőszeghy (director of the Museum of Applied Arts between 1838-1945) can be found partly in the Documentary Department of the Museum of Applied Arts: one part data of his handbook indispensable for the study of the history of Hungarian goldsmith's art (published in 1936 in Budapest), another part a collection of Hungarian movable monuments the inventory of which was began by him, and done also by him and his fellow colleagues. On the occasion of the exhibition organised in 1907 in the museum of Applied Ails showing Hungarian private collections the idea of making a list of movable monuments in private collections had emerged. This did not took place at the end of the thirties because of the historical situation, and at the beginning of the forties only the monuments of present Hungary, and not those of historical Hungary could be listed. The data have an indispensable historical value however. Each monument and interior was listed on a documentary page of its own, similarly to those describing works of art, showing different points, among them the owner as well. Public institutions and private collections could also be found on then, like movable from Budapest and the country - mainly works of applied art, but sometimes paintings also. The collection is occasional, but the descriptions and photos give help in the study very often. This study is illustrated by unknown photos of the György Ráth villa, once home of the first director of the Museum of Applied Arts and of the aristocratic private collection of the Bánffy treasury.
