KIÁLLÍTÁS - Mikó Árpád: A budavári Szent Zsigmond-templom és gótikus szobrai

The importance of the exhibition was given by the statue fragments, although a large number of tile, stone and metal finds were also shown. The limestone statue fragments are in close connection to certain pieces of the 1973 gothic statue find of Buda. There are two fragments - the lower part of a figure wrapped in a full-length cloak and a female head with an almost totally destroyed face (III/2 and III/% cat.nos), - that could have also been found at László Zolnay's excavation. The majority of the fragments is however of lower quality. It seems that this new find does not solve definitely the problem of the 1973 statue find's localization, although the pieces are stylistically familiar to those of found earlier. Beside larger size stone statues a few fragments of reliefs belonging to small architecture: two tiny female heads of minute execution and two (ot three) remains of guilt terracotta angels of outstanding qusality. The late Gothic bronze chandelier must also have been an extraordinary work, several of its fragments were found. There were also important Renaissance details in the church, as it is proved by a few red marble carvings. The most spectacular element of the exhibition was the reconstruction of the former rood - screen - the show-cases were practically placed around this witty pseudo-construction. The exhibition was an event of outstanding importance in Hungarian medieval studies and made richer and slightly different our view concerning Buda in the Middle Ages. A scientific conference was also organized in connection with the exhibition, and the lectures held there and the debate would most probably contribute to the final and detailed treatment of the finds.
