MŰHELY - Siklósi Gyula: A középkori Csór és temploma

Gyula SIKLÓSI THE MEDIEVAL CSÓR AND ITS CHURCH The village of Csór is situated by the main road no 8. in north-western direction from the town of Székesfehérvár, 14 kms from the medieval city. The village was built at the edge of the region's marshes, at the foot of the south-eastern part of Bakony mountain. This territory was inhabited even at the upper-paleolitic period. Prehistoric sites were found in several parts of the village. (Numbered as 1., 2., 3., 4., 6., 7., 9., 12., 13., 14., 16., 17., 18., 19. and 20.) Crocks from the late Avar period (no. 20.) and burials were also discovered at the territory of the village. Medieval Csór was surrounded with several larger medieval sites on the territory of the present Csór (site no. 10.: „Radics"-farm. „Meritő-puszta"; site no.5. „Kusztos") its present name is „Gusztus"-puszta; site no. 15.: the medieval village of Izka (today its name is „Csárda alájáró"). Outside the boundaries of the village medieval villages of Réti, Inota, Nuhud, Gut, Atya, Szentgyörgy surrounded Csór, and following their becoming „puszta" the already mentioned Kusztos, joined with Bial. Medieval Csór was identified on the present inhabited territories in several sites (6., 8., 9., 11., 18., 20.). In the centre of the village the Roman Catholic church was situated. (Site no. 20.) Our medieval sites might be perhaps the proofs of the distribution of Csór's medieval possessions. The village is first mentioned in a charter from the year 1055, as an already existing settlement. The next data from 1092 mentioned a mill in „Chour". Several charters are known mentioning the village from later periods, till the Turkish occupation. Mansions, their owners and mills are also mentioned in them. In 1617 the village was deserted, but soon was resettled. The medieval church of the village, dedicated to St.Pter was first mentioned in 1333. In 1630 the house of the pastor was mentioned. In 1702 the church was said to have been deserted, later it got to the possession of the Calvinists. From 1747 on it was again in the possession of the Catholic Church and was rebuilt.
