MŰHELY - Jánó Mihály: A székelydályai református templom kutatása

The next important period in the history of the church was when it got into Calvinist possession. At that time it was most probably in rather poor condition. Following the year 1624, several repairs, smaller rebuildings were made. The most important among them, the painted wooden ceiling panels were made in 1630. At this time the size of the big Southern Gothic windows were reduced by bricking up their upper traceries, and in the apse a small wooden gallery was made on the place of the former altar. Between 1770 and 1802 took place the greater Baroque rebuilding. These were made mainly in the interiour and in the Western part of the church, where pulling down almost the whole Western wall a new Baroque tower was built. As a new porch was opened through the tower, the Southern Gothic doorway was bricked up. The new, late Baroque gallery is built behind the tower, and a pulpit and new triumphal arch. The last important rebuilding is at the beginning of this century, when the pavement of the interiour is heightened with 50 cm and the furniture is partly changed — at the same time the stone frame of the Southern porch is recarved and changed and then bricked up again. The memory of this is the inscription of the portico: „Renovated in 1927". The present stage of the investigation and the interesting and precious details warn us, that although the restoration of the famous vault paintings has begun, but that is not enough considering the task of preserving the whole building of the church.
