„Nomád nemzedék”

„NOMÁD NEMZEDÉK" ni T he young generation of the 1970s - being sensitive to social questions - was looking for the possibilities of renewal in all walks of life. Their inspiration came from the intellectual and material tradition of the former village communities. In these years a movement was born in Hungary that dealt with all branches of arts thus creating abiding values in literature, music, architecture, dancing, fine and applied arts. Teaching craftsmanship, making playthings out of natural materials stood pre-eminent among the others. We can mention playground and indoor toys {previous table, below: Kristóf Nagy 's outdoor toy, 1974, h: 150 cms), playthings for little children {previous table, centre: Bertalan Nagy: bird, 1978, h: 13 cms) and pottery whistles {previous table, above: János Dugár, 1996, h: 12 cms). Mari Nagy and István Vidák - beside other trades - have revived felt making {table above: cart, 1975, h: 35 cms and felt bear, 1996, h: 28 cms), András Galánfi has been teaching young people how to make wooden toys for decades [table left, below: András Galánfi: two dolls, beading, around 1980, h: 26 cms), Andrea Szittner and Katalin Landgraf have also taught making handcraft toys {table below: doll in folk-costume, around 1980, h: 26 cms). {Drawings: Mária Kardos, pottery-toys, 1984, h: 10 cms.)
