INTRODUCTION T he board games have an outstanding place among the works of art of the SzórakaténuszToy Museum and Workshop. This booklet would like to introduce this collection that involves a rich segment both in content and time, and preserves irreplaceable rarities. The survey of the games is based upon the original descriptions and instructions, in some cases I kept the original orthography. It is wonderful in games, thus in parlour games too, that they have different messages to a collector, a culture historian, an art historian, a museum pedagogue and a sociologist. This time I am going to touch upon the research of board games from the sociological point of view based on an earlier analysis of mine: 'Pursue an intelligent policy!' - The social message of board games. Social message here means the patterns of thinking and behaving considered correct by a certain society. Learning this pattern is carried out during the socialization in which playing has an outstanding role.
