Kossuth Kiadó, Budapest CARTOGRAPHIC PATH FINDING IN GENEVA by Dr. Gábor Gercsdk The author is a geographer, who had been an immediate colleague to Sándor Radó (1899—1981) for three years. It is well known that Radó was an outstanding agent for the Soviet intelligence during World War II in Switzerland, and to cover his activity he continued his cartographic and publishing business. The author tried to find all those addresses in Geneva that Radó had mentioned in his memoirs. These places were not only important in Radó’s private life, but also had an important role in the course of several events of World War II. The author often quotes from Radó’s memoirs written in Hungarian and published in full for the first time only in 2006. The short quotations reflect Radó’s character and the exciting events of his time. These extracts from the book are completed with photographs taken by the author on site. The paper first describes the environment where Radó lived with a quotation, photograph and the personal evaluation of the author. The presentation of the three radio stations follows, which all had their dramatic role in the history of events. These places are brought to life by exciting extracts from the memoirs. At one place, the author draws the attention to one of the very few mistakes in the memory of Radó. The author also had the chance to find and take photos of the places where Radó had narrow escapes: a restaurant, a road tunnel and a railway tunnel.
