TO THE OF PROFESSOR VILMA SZÉKY-FUX by Dr. Miklós Kozák Professor Vilma Széky-Fux was an internationally renowned expert in volcanology, petrology and ore formation. She completed her secondary studies with excellent results in the Dóczy Grammar School in 1934. She spent the first university years in the newly built Tisza István University of Debrecen, where she received her diploma in natural sciences and chemistry in 1939. Based on her teaching and research activities she was employed at the Institute of Mineralogy and Petrology at the Budapest university as assistant from September 1943. Her career was rich in abrupt turns and fights. Her achievements are equally valuable in research, teaching and science organization (at the Academy of Hungarian Sciences and in the Hungarian Geological Society).
