ÉRTEKEZÉSEK - Dr. Kubassek János: Az első motorkerékpáros világ körüli utazás

Sulkowsky és Bartha Indokínában THE FIRST MOTOR-CYCLE JOURNEY AROUND THE WORLD The journey around the world by two Hungarian youths of enterprising spirit, Zoltán Sulkowsky and Gyula Bartha, is unprecendented in the history of Hungarian travels and has not been repeated to our days. In hope of earning a living, the two travellers left Hungary on the eve of the great economic crisis. Their continuous journey of 8 years (between 1928 ans 1936) on an American Harley —Davidson motor-cycle extended to 68 countries of five continents. They covered more than 170,000 km and, regarding the road conditions of that time, this was an outstanding achievement on world scale. Their journey, which was not financed by neither the state or other patrons, made a great sensation all over the world. Their papers in journals of English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian language brought fame to the Hungarian people. They raised the necessary money for their living and travelling from the fees of their lectures and publications. Their experiences were published by Zoltán Sulkowsky on the pages of the popular scientific journal of the Hungarian Geographical Society, the Földgömb (Globe) and then in his book privately issued.
