The rove beetle fauna of the Bakony and the Vértes Mountains

sociation in the zone of closed oak forests is Quercetum petraeae-cerris, which still covers relatively large areas. The zone of humid (hornbeam and beech) forests occupies a wide area above 350 metres but the role of hornbeam forests, due to the local climatic factors, is subordinated in this region. The typical associations of the humid forests are Carici-Carpinetum betuli (hornbeam stands) and Daphno-Fagetum sylvaticae (beech stands). Zoogeographie division - The investigated area is divided into six main and ten minor faunal regions (Fig. 2): I. Balaton vidéke (Balatonicum): 1.1. Balaton-felvidék, 1.2. Veszprémi-fennsík, 1.3. Keszthelyi-hegység vidéke - II. Bakony-Vértes vidéke (Vesprimense): II.1. Déli-Bakony, II.2. Északi-Bakony, II.3. Keleti-Bakony, II.4. Bakonyalja, II.5. Sokoró, II.6. Vértes, II.7. Bársonyos vidéke - III. Belső-Somogy vidéke (Somogyicum): Tapolcai-medence vidéke - IV. Külső-Somogy (Kaposense): Balatoni-Riviéra V. Kelet-Zalai-dombság vidéke (Saladiense): Devecseri-Bakonyalja - VI. Mezőföld vidéke (Colocense): Zámolyi-medence vidéke. Characteristic species - Thermophilous (South-east European, Balcanian, etc.) elements living mainly in the lower areas are Ocypus olens, O. ophthalmicus, Quedius levicollis, Xantholinus laevigatus, Stenus maculiger and Omalium cinnamomeum. These species characteristic for South Transdanubia and the Transdanubian Mountains, however, the best part of them can be sporadically found in the nearby areas, too. Elements of humid areas living mainly in the higher regions are Quedius lateralis, Qu. nigriceps, Qu. ochropterus, Othius laeviusculus, Domene scabricollis, Stenus similis, Liogluta pagana, Leptusa ruficollis, Placusa atrata, Tachinus rufipennis, Omalium excavatum and Anthophagus alpestris. These species distributed mainly in West and South-west Transdanubia but a few of them live in north-eastern part of Hungary, too. Elements of humid areas living usually in the lower regions are Neobisnius villosulus, Oxypoda rufa, Atheta europaea, Bledius cribricollis and Olophrum viennense. Their distribution in Hungary is similar to those of the previous group of species. Thermophilous elements characteristic for the Great Hungarian Plain and Little Plain are Philonthus salinus, Ph. scribae, Ph. spermophili, Rabigus pullus, Quedius meridiocarpathicus, Leptophius flavocinctus, Xantholinus coiffaiti, Paederus balcanicus, Astenus bimaculatus, A. pulchellus, Aleochara milleri, Dacrila fallax, Coprophilus piceus, Bledius spectabilis, B. unicornis and Platystethus rufospinus. These species occur usually in the lower regions: on warm, dry slopes of hills, on sandy and muddy deposits of lakes and puddles, in marshes, etc. List of species - The records are arranged in the order of the Zoogeographie regions (see above), while settlement and place names are listed alphabetically. In the case of some species (usually in lack of the referred specimens) it was impossible to confirm some former records. These data need further confirmation, or these are supposed to be misinterpretations. In such cases species names are put into brackets. The species collected in the close surroundings of the study area but not found within its boundaries are also marked in this way. Finally, a new species for the Hungarian fauna is mentioned in this part: Mocyta fussi (Bernhauer, 1908).
