constant throughout this species. — New morphological differences between Didymodon rigidulus and D. glaucus were established for instance the ratio between the elongated and square cells of the dorsal costa surface and the qualitative difference in its transversal section. These differences were present in all samples and justified the delimitation of D. glaucus at the species level. — The fact that several species of Didymodon bear bistratose leaf margin and place to place bistratose lamina as well, is little known in European literature. Classic works mention this character only as D. rigidulus. The author can prove in Hungarian samples , the observations of overseas authors specifically, that this character is present as D. vinealis, D. vinealis var. flaccidus and D. sinuosus as well. Phytogeographical conclusions One species, Barbula indica (Hook.) Spreng., proved to be new to Europe during the investigation. This pantropical warm temperate species occurs in two localities: Budapest Hungary, and Croatia near the Hungarian border near Kotoriba. One should presume the discovery of new occurrences by revising further materials of B. unguiculata. The knowledge about the distribution of the Hungarian species became much more accurate and detailed, and in the case of a few species, like Didymodon sinuosus and Pseudocrossidium revolutum, the area considerably increased. The boreal Didymodon glaucus proved to be much more rare than previously known: all published data were based on misidentifications, so a new current and accurate was created. The author has mapped out the taxa in question using the base maps and code system of the Central European Flora Mapping Project.
