Etényi Nóra The Vubliáty of the two Diets in Sopron in 1622 and 1625 in the Holy Roman Empire The image of the two diets in Sopron (in 1622 and 1625) in the 17th century printed newsletters is fragmented but is based on substantive information. At that time, in the 1620-s the political importance of the publicity in the Holy Roman Empire was growing and developing; even though the power relations, the balance of political forces changed rapidly and the information of the weekly press were not built in the long-term political representation. Duing the 30 years war (1618—48) the printed information had important role, because several political centres tried to reach the European publicity and influence the public opinion due to economical, strategic, political and military reasons. The printed newsletters in German on the Sopron Parlia­ment in 1622 showed and emphasised how important political and military conflict was solved by the compromise between the king and the nobility of the Hungarian Kingdom. Since September 1619 several printed newsletters, ‘relatio’-s, popular publications had spread the news as reliable political information that the bigger part of the Hungarian Kingdom even belonged to Gábor Bethlen’s principality. The propaganda of Gábor Bethlen tried to legitimate the power of the Prince by printed publication („Regni Hungáriáé Occupatio”, „Querela Hungáriáé”, the dialogue between Bethlen and Religio as a woman, etc.), combining the legal efforts of the Hungarian nobility with the question of freedom of protestant religion. A lot of printed German ‘relatio’ reported on the diets Gábor Bethlen and the election of him as king of Hungary. The news on the diet in Sopron in 1622 were published in the weekly newspaper of Matthaus Formica, which usually published information from Vienna. These news introduced the diet from the viewpoint of the Habsburg representation, but also reported on the election of the Hungarian palatine as well as the poltical role of the archbishop of Esztergom. The news also described Sopron as a new scene for the diet and for the coronation. The coronation of the queen was also important part of the news, the reports on it were mainly based on the printed newsletters of Simon Halmayer and Jo­hann Lauern from Nürnberg, and the catholic and aulic Mang from Augs- burg.
