NÜBL, JÁNOS: THE SOLDIERS OF SOMOGY COUNTY DURING THE FIRST MONTHS OF THE “GREAT WAR” The author in his study interprets the combat actions of the I. R. 44th infantry regiment and the Hungarian royal 19th honved infantry regiment of Pécs in 1914 with the help of military memoirs (regiments’ histories), short military history summaries and the contemporary newspapers of the county. The greater part of the troops of both regiments was domiciled in Somogy. In the summer of 1914 one battalion of each of these regiments was garrisoned at Kaposvár, moreover the replacement centre of the 44th infantry regiment was resided in this city. During and after the First World War the people of Somogy County regarded the 44th infantry regiment as their domestic regiment and the 19th infantry regiment as the regiment of the honveds of Somogy. RÉCSEI, BALÁZS: FROM THE HISTORY OF THE FIRST STATUES OF JÓZSEF RIPPLRÓNAI IN KAPOSVÁR The first statue of József Rippl-Rónai in Kaposvár was made by the proposal of the painter’s artist friend and a rapturous local patriot, the lawyer dr. Gyula Fekete. The symbolic laurels of the work were reaped mostly by dr. György Kaposváry, the mayor of Kaposvár. The work of the sculptor Dezsó' Lányi was realized according to the intentions of the customer, that is to say the mayor of Kaposvár and dr. Gyula Fekete lawyer. The state-wide famed statue enhanced the repute of the sculptor, the model and Kaposvár too. From the study we get knowledge about the vicissitudinary history of the procuring of the financial margins needed for the statue, as well as the rugged way of its realization. We get to know about some momentums of the raising of the second statue of József Rippl-Rónai which stands now on the Rippl-Rónai square, just as the tomb of the artist standing in the Eastern cemetery of Kaposvár. The study is completed with the transcriptions of many documents from which we obtain an insight into the procession of the creation. RÉCSEI, BALÁZS: FROM THE HISTORY OF THE STATUE OF ISTVÁN NÉMETH IN KAPOSVÁR From the study we get knowledge about the decision-making mechanism in connection with raising statues in the capital of Somogy County between the two world wars. Moreover, we obtain an insight into the efficacy of the civil courage, namely Dr Gyula Fekete, a lawyer in Kaposvár who wanted to raise a statue for István Németh (who was the mayor of Kaposvár at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries) in order to nettle the contemporary mayor of the city with whom he had some conflicts. Dr Fekete wanted to diminish the prestige of Dr György Kaposváry (Vétek) mayor with the glamorizing of István Németh, the significant mayor of the turn of the century. The presentation of the procuring of the financial margins lets an insight into the local political conditions of Kaposvár in the second half of the 1930’s. The documents following the study give an insight into the life of several sculptors and initiate into the secrets of the customer — creator — artwork triplicity.
