József Gyenesei: The Beginnings of the Sculptural Creative Colony and Symposion in Nagyatád in the Mirror of Official Sources The colony of sculptors in Nagyatád started its activity in the summer of 1975. Three main factors played a role in the establishment of the statue park: the symposion movement spontaneously evolving in the fine arts from the 1960-ies, the efforts of the developing settlement changing into a town to rise in the field of culture, and finally the MSZMP's (Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party) aim to secure the decisive role of the socialist ideology in the field of culture as well. The relation of these factors to each other determined the specific character of the institute to be born. The essay presents the process of the colony's organization and the events and experiences of the first creative season on the basis of official sources.
