offices. Two branches of the family earned the title of a count, this way becoming aristocrats. Pál Somssich, who belonged to the third generation, became one of the best-known, mildly conservative politicians of the county and the nation in the reform era. The author illustrates the history of the family by using rich source-materials. Zsuzsanna Szálai: The sub-prefect's documents in the Somogy County Archives related to the Esterházy family's estates in Somogy ( 1861-1946 ) Repertory One of the largest units of documents of the Somogy County Archives is the document called "IV. 405. the documents of the sub-prefect of Somogy 1869-1950." Its quantity is 659, 99 document running metres. Many researchers were scared off by this huge amount of documents, so the complete unit has rarely been studied thoroughly. The author compiled the repertory with the facts about the Esterházy family by examining the registries of the index books (1862-1930) and the index cards (1931-1946) beginning with the letter "E". By publishing this repertory, the time spended on research remarkably shortens and the protection of substance also improves because the researcher no longer needs to use the original index books and index cards. László Szántó: The elections of representatives in Somogy, 1890-1910 The study deals with the Somogy events of the six general parliamentary elections held during the two decades and the by-elections. At the turn of the 19th and 20th century the inner crisis of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy increased. There were signs of an internal policy crisis in Hungary too. The increasing social unrest was mostly connected with the national offences and that the situation of the traditional agricultural classes - the landowners and the peasantry - was getting worse. During the consecutive elections the popularity of the governing Liberal party gradually fell off. At the same time the power of the national opposition of independence and conservative opposition increased. Somogy was one of the counties where the opposition of independence was traditionally strong, so during the crisis in 1905-1906 they triumphed over the ruling party. The landed peasantry, who was entitled to vote, was very disappointed so they formed a new political force: the National Small-holder' Party of 1848. Somogy became the birthplace of the small-holder's movement and here began his career the leader of the party, István Nagyatádi Szabó. Máté Gárdonyi: József Mindszenty 's foundations of parishes in Somogy József Mindszenty, who later became the prince-archbishop of Hungary, was the leader of the wide-spread Veszprém Diocese in 1944-45. In those disastrous times when everybody's aim was the sheer survival, the bishop made the first steps towards the up-dating of the pastoral structure of his diocese. Increasing the number of the parishes met the requirements of the Holy See on the one hand, on the other hand it was organized on such archaic basis as the idea of counter-reformation, for Mindszenty, following the steps of his predecessor Márton Padányi Bíró from the 18th century, mostly founded parishes in the villages with previously protestant majority. The 19 parishes he founded in Somogy were very different. As the circumstances were getting worse, the majority of these parishes vanished. But this wasn't because of the naivity of the bishop, but rather because the social, political and economic conditions in which he began to found his parishes were radically changing after 1945.
