Two staff members at the Stamp Museum became members of the Hungarian Scientific Society for Philately. The museum handled the design and publication of a book by Dr. András Lovász on corrections to the engraving of a 20 krajcár colored stamp numbered 0867-81. Exhibitions and Venues The Postal Museum’s twelfth exhibit hall opened in 2002, in the attic gallery of EMITEL headquarters in Kiskunhalas. The Postal Museum had a series of successful itinerant and periodic exhibits in addition to Telecom History Mosaics at Kiskunhalas. They included: • The Hungarian Post Office’s 135 Years, 1867-2002; • Love - Family - War, The postcard art of Rezső Ócsvár; • Memories in the Mail, an exhibition by Mária Vajda. The Stamp Museum organized an exhibit of laces from Kiskunhalas and of the stamps that portray them, which it called Kiskunhalas: Land of Miracle Lace. The larger post offices in Pécs and Szeged hosted a series of itinerant exhibitions: • 1100 Years Pictured on Stamps; • Folk Art Motifs, the work of László Dudás; • Parallel Issues of Stamps, Hungarian-Turkish stamps. The designs for a Kossuth stamp, the work of Mór Than, were on display at the Museum of Budapest History as part of the celebrations marking the bicentenary of the birth of Lajos Kossuth, the leader of Hungary’s ill-fated 1848 war of independence. Stamps were also used to enhance the itinerant Kossuth exhibition organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as a Kossuth display at the Rezső Soó memorial room in Debrecen. Stamp designs that never became stamps were shown at Hunfila’s 2002 International Stamp Exhibit. The Stamp Museum has set up tableaux presenting the Hungarian stamps that won prizes at the international stamp show in Bratislava. Some 67 205 people visited Postal Museum exhibitions, and 34 443 attended Stamp Museum shows, including the itinerant displays. These numbers do not include the people who saw the Postal Museum exhibit at the National Historical Memorial Park in Opusztaszer, but notes in the guest registry suggest that some 70 000 people (25% of all the visitors to the park) visited the display. Overall, some 171 648 people visited foundation museums, to learn about some of the interesting features and events of Hungarian telecom history. Audience Relations A significant role in audience relations was played by the personalized passes which the foundation sent to the 62 000 employees of the corporations that set up the foundation, inviting them to visit foundation museums free-of-charge. The foundation auditorium has been home to 181 professional presentations, most of them organized by the Scientific Society for Telecommunications and Information Technology. At the Postal Museum the registry shows that 820 guided tours and 35 programs for students and children were organized. Eight meetings of the Hungarian Scientific 345
