It is a merit of the bishop of Hippo that he not only emphasized the deliverance from the sin,, but also enlightened its defeat in the inside. Christ is not only a healer but at hallower, too, and by sanctification a Saviour. Moreover: the Saviour is not reality viewed historically, from outside, like by Pelagius, but as the head of mankind, is an inner, mystic reality, who influences the individuals as well as the entire humanity, because He is already Saviour before all times and before His incarnation.59 That is what was emphasized by the earlier Fathers of the Church too.
