László Perendy: The Outlines of Systematic Theology in the Ad Autolycum of Theophilus of Antioch
178 L. PERENDY stantly refers to biblical texts and gives their exegesis. He gives instruction not only about Christian doctrine, but also Christian morality, emphasizing the importance of personal conversion. The audience of Cyrill in Jerusalem in the middle of the fourth century was obviously different from that of Theophilus in Antioch about 180 years before.36 But the aim of the two bishops was obviously the same: StScucrtKog elvett. The only surviving work by Theophilus served his duty to catechize systematically. 36 Thorough research into the interaction of various religious groups in Antioch has just started. (See M. ZETTERHOLM, The Formation of Christianity in Antioch, London-New York 2003.)
