In order to manifest the tremendous importance of the twelfth general council, perhaps it would be best to compare it to the Gregorian or Tridentine periods of the Church's history. The effects of the Gregorian reform had impacted the daily life of the Church through local councils convoked in the presence of papal legates.95 But the effects of the new canonical collections were also very significant.
