THE PATRISTIC INTERPRETATION OF ‘REDEMPTIO’ 29 Fathers, as well as with the creeds of baptism, with the New Testa­ment and with the soteria lived in the sacraments of the Churc:h. 5. The basis of Irenaeus soteriology remains the Christus Victor-idea, but the incarnation plays a more important role for him. The Word made flesh, as the second Adam, took on himself and united with himself the entire mankind, by his divinity he brought to the “human mass” the immortal­ity and the incorruptibility, which could be granted only by they un­created Word because they are divine gifts. To receive these gifts means to restore the God-resemblence. It seems that according to this idea the redemptio is already given by the incarnation, and the incarnation of the divine Logos means a uniting with the whole human nature.
