Translations from 1931 to 1950

JÁNOS VIKTOR (1888-1954), Doctor of Philosophy and Calvinist Theology. From 1932 a preacher at Budapest, a prolific writer104 and translator of the Letter to Philemon (1933).

KONSTANTIN HORVÁTH, cistercian monk, who translated The Book of Psalms'05 from Latin in prose and added annotations based upon the Hebrew text. This was the first Catholic translation to be made with high philological standards.

LÁSZLÓ SZÉKELY, translated The Song of Songs (1935)

LÁSZLÓ FARKAS, a Lutheran or Calvinist priest. Wrote a book about Moses and translated the New Testament into a particular archaic language (1938).

SÁNDOR CSELEI, translated Amos (1939).

BÉLA DÚSA, translated Psalms in verse(1939).

KÁLMÁN KÁLLAY (1890-1959), a Calvinist teacher in Pozsony, Pápa, Bucharest, and Debrecen. From 1928 professor of the Old Testament. He published many studies on the Old Testament106 and translated the Book of Psalms (1941).

KÁROLY KARNER (1897-), a Lutheran professor who studied at Kőszeg and Leipzig. From 1923 Doctor of Theology, from 1925- Doctor of Philosophy. He published several works,107 among them a version with commentary of the Gospel of St. Matthew (1935), The Letter to the Romans (1942), Apocalypse (1974). The latter is still known as the best Apocalypse commentary written in Hungarian.
