ceum of Pozsony. He wrote religious and school books. He translated and commented the Letter to Corinthians I and II.92

JÁNOS MENYHÁRT (1823-1900) taught in many places, then went to Göttingen. He wrote several books,93 among them translations and revisions of the New Testament.

JÁNOS ZÁDORI DAXLER (1831-1887) teacher at the Seminary of Esztergom and editor of Catholic papers The Catholic Pastor and The New Hungarian Sion. Among his other works he translated Two Letters of St. Paul Apostle and published it in Pest (1861).

KÁROLY KÁLMÁN (1858-1913), a Roman Catholic parish priest and Member of Parliament. His career began at the School of Church Literature for the seminary students of Pest. He translated Thomas Kem- pis’ work in verse and The Book of Psalms. He was the first to study the Sumerian literary relationship of the Psalms.94

ISTVÁN KALMÁR (?), a Franciscan then Nazarene priest. His translation of the New Testament was published in Döblingen (1862).

JÓZSEF HEISZLER (1819?) Doctor of Philosophy. Though he was born a Catholic and was the member of the Piarist Order, after the War of Independence he became a Calvinist preacher. He wrote novels and was the editor of the so called Sárospatak Fascicules. He gave lectures on exegesis, which he later published in booklets.95

SÁMUEL KÁMORY (1830-1903), an orientalist and Bible translator. He studied in Halle and Göttingen. As a Lutheran preacher he taught at the Lyceum of Pozsony. His translation reflects philological interest but it is not really suitable to be widely read. First he translated Ruth,
