SACRA THEOLOGIA - Szabolcs Anzelm Szuromi, O.Praem.. Encyclical letter «Laudato si’» as ‘constitution’ on responsibility of global sustainability

ENCYCLICAL LETTER «LAUDATO SI’» AS ‘CONSTITUTION' ON RESPONSIBILITY... 57 tion of biological or medical - health care - problem, on the other, these are several times questionable based on the moral teaching of the Catholic Church. Apparently, together with many, rapidly developing new bio- or medical techniques immediately several moral questions arise: where is a limit of our artificial interventions, which can change sometimes even the personality of the patient? This is that question which was articulated many times by Thomas Freund, one of the most significant contemporary researchers of nervous system, particularly functioning of the brain.24 This problem is already raises the ethical or moral issues and the serious responsibility of the researchers too. At this point the morally correct science is the one which is able to give a stable, clear and responsible support to a faithful person. The goal is unquestionable: healing the patient, the human soul, the society, the fauna, or the vegetation. Nevertheless, the way to reach that zeal is the real crucial: to offer a real working alternative, which heals the problem without destroying our morality, our revealed faith, our strong link to our Creator. It is a possible way, which offers the highest level medical therapies and even during the research or experimental period follows the moral principles of the Church.25 Many researchers, universities and research centers based on their particular ethical code are working based on this Catholic moral principle. Only for example from the long list I would like to mention some of them, firstly the Gemelli Clinic which belongs to the Italian Catholic University, namely the Università Sacra Cuore (Milan). But 1 cannot forget our Spanish partners, the Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA: Pamplona); and the Centre of Studies and Technical Research (CEIT: San Sebastian).26 This cooperation between humanity, morality and new technologies are capable for a fruitful cooperation, and the medical - health care field is only one of the many possibilities.27 Perhaps, this is the intention behind Chapter Four of the Laudato si’, explains the so called “integral ecology”. The analysis of relations among territory of life, living beings and environment, together the second and third nature. 24 Cf. Gulyás, A. I. - Szabó, G.
