I. General observations on the Patristic Material of Anselm’s Collection

The observed Gregorian canon law collection10 11 is the ‘A’ recension of the Collectio Canonum Anselmi Lucensis.11 The patristic material of Anselm’s Collection is not the most numerous group of canons compared to other sources of the collection (papal canons, conciliar canons, etc.). The whole collection contains about 1150 canons.12 156 [158] of 1150 quote patristic texts from St. Augustine (77 [+2] canons),13 St. Ambrose (12 canons), St. Jerome (19 canons), St. Cyprian ( 12 canons), Eusebius ( 1 canon), Origen ( 1 canon), Cyrill of Alexandria (1 canon), Basil the Great (2 canons). St. Leo the Great14 and St. Gregory the Great15 are represented by 194 canons, therefore the whole material counts 350 [352] canons.
