It helps improve their analytical abilities and communication skills. Examinations At the end of each semester there shall be evaluation of the courses that have been completed during that semester. For the principal and auxiliary courses, the evaluation shall be a written examination of 90 minutes or a viva examination for about 20 minutes. As far as possible, the written examination shall be based on problem type questions. The teacher may split the total marks between an assignment carrying not more than 25% of marks and a regular problem cum descriptive type examination for the remaining marks in each subject. The assessment of seminars and optionals is done by the respective teachers. The course outline, the teaching plan as well as the evaluation scheme will be made available to the students at the beginning of the semester itself. If a course is taught by more than one teacher, they shall jointly prepare the questions, organize the examination and evaluate the performance. Students of Masters’ Degree will have a comprehensive examination both written and viva voice at the end of the fourth semester. The written examination shall be on the basis of the principal courses and shall last four hours. The oral examination will be of an hour before a panel of three professors and shall be based on a number of topics taken from the ius commune Ecclesiarum orientalium. Diploma Course in Oriental Canon Law The Institute offers a diploma course in oriental canon law which is meant for extraordinary students. A curriculum of 10 courses and a seminar prescribed by the Director shall be the requirement of the course. Its duration shall be one year or two semesters. Students who successfully complete the prescribed curriculum shall receive a diploma in oriental canon law. Certificate Course in Oriental Canon Law Certificate courses are training programmes in special areas of canon law such as marriage, religious life, procedural law etc. This is meant for special categories of persons like tribunal personnel, members of institutes of consecrated life, civil lawyers who work in collaboration with ecclesiastical tribunals etc. The details of the programme shall be drawn up each year by the Director in consultation with the Institute Council. Students who successfully complete the course receive a certificate in oriental canon law.
