row; 8-9 hooks on anterior part; most anterior 4 to 5 hooks longest, with strong roots directed posteriorly, slightly swollen at base; next hook little, with shorter or very short root directed also posteriorly; transitional hooks 3-4, with shape similar to this in male specimens; remaining 7-9 hooks almost without roots, located on posterior part of proboscis; dimensions of hooks (blade x root): I, 0.050 x 0.045; II, 0.055-0.060 x 0.0575-0.060; III, 0.055-0.056 x 0.0625-0.070; IV, 0.050-0.0575 x 0.070-0.080; V, 0.035-0.040 x 0.0425-0.0675 (0.0225); VI-VIII, 0.0375-0.045 x 0.0225; IX-XVII, 0.035-0.0425 x -. Neck inserted in all specimens studied. Proboscis receptacle double-walled, attached at constriction (at level of 8-10 hooks); 1.32-1.65 long and 0.21-0.25 wide. Lemnisci significantly longer than proboscis receptacle, 2.55-2.76 long. Uterus 0.65 long, with thick walls. Vagina 0.32 long, provided with two sphincters (anterior 0.130, posterior 0.113 in diameter), terminating in vaginal bulb 0.113 long and 0.100 wide. Genital pore terminal. Trunk filled with oval eggs without polar prolongations; dimensions of eggs 0.0575-0.0675 x 0.0225-0.030. Remarks: There are several descriptions of C. aluconis (Lühe 1911, Meyer 1932/33, Florescu 1939, cit. after Florescu and Ienistea 1984, Bykhovskaya 1948, Lundstrom 1942) but most of them contain insufficient details, especially in relation to morphology of transitional hooks. Our specimens have shorter proboscides and smaller width of the trunks compared with the measurements given by Lühe (1911); in addition, the testes are significantly more distant from the proboscis receptacle than reported by the latter author. The roots of the transitional hooks in our specimens form an open "S" together with the hook blade (lateral view) as they have been described by Lühe (1911) but, in frontal view, they are rather bialate than Y-shaped (Lühe 1911) or lyre-shaped (Lundstrom 1942). Our specimens are also similar to C. conspectus Van Cleave and Pratt, 1940, reported from Strix varia from North America, especially concerning the root morphology of transitional hooks. However, the proboscis receptacle of the latter species is attached at the anterior swollen part of proboscis (see Petrochenko 1958), while it is attached posteriorly to the swelling, i.e., at the proboscis constriction in our specimens, as it is in C. aluconis. Evidently, these two species are very similar. Further comparative studies are needed, especially on the morphology of their proboscides, hooks and proboscis receptacles, in order to examine their validity. This species has been reported from Circus aeruginosus and Sorex araneus (juvenile forms) in Hungary by Murai et al. (1985). The present study is the first record of Strix aluco and Asio otus as hosts of C. aluconis in Hungary. Centrorhynchus globocaudatus (Zeder, 1800) Lühe, 1911 Specimen studied: Falco cherrug - No 8816, 1 male, Szigetbecse, May 1980. Description of male (Fig. 2.): Total length of specimen 22.83. Trunk elongate, cylindrical, 21.75 long and 1.05 wide at level of cement glands. Proboscis 1.03 long, divided into two parts by constriction: anterior part cylindrical, 0.488 long and 0.313 wide, 0.294 wide at constriction; posterior part almost cylindrical and slightly arched towards anterior part, 0.531 long and 0.450 wide. Proboscis armament consists of 30 (32) longitudinal rows, 20-21 hooks in each row: 8-9 hooks on anterior part of proboscis (anterior 6 of them longest, with roots directed posteriorly and swollen at base); next 2-3 hooks shorter, transitional, with shield-shaped roots (with anterior and
