of the infection. The smallest bladders, which contain developed hooks, measure 15 x 18 mm in size. The cysts are 22 to 30 x 25 to 35 mm, but the larger bladders frequently reach 45 to 50 x 50 to 65 mm in size (wild boar, roe deer). The cyst is entirely filled with the larvae. The forebody and scolex are projected or folded back at the anterior part of the caudal bladder (forebody: mean width 2.6 mm, mean length 3.3 mm, caudal bladders measure 15 x 18 to 50 x 65 mm, n= 15). The forebody can be seen through the wall of the cyst. The larva is filled with a clear exudate. The scolex is 0.700 to 0.970 mm (n = 10, mean 0.790 mm) in diameter. The rostellum measures 0.400 to 0.430 mm (n = 10, mean 0.410 mm). The suckers range from 0.220 x 0.280 to 0.320 x 0.400 mm (n=31, mean 0.292 mm) in diameter. The rostellar hooks are arranged in two rows, their number is 26 to 36 (most frequently 31 to 32,n=40). The large hooks are 0.187 to 0.230 mm long (n=86, mean 0.221), the handle is 0.087 to 0.121 mm long (mean 0.102), the guard is 0.053 to 0.074 mm long (mean 0.063) and the basis is 0.124 to 0.156 mm long (mean 0.145). The small hooks are 0.121 to 0.168 mm long (n=86, mean 0.142), the handle is 0.049 to 0.071 mm long (mean 0.061), the guard is 0.053 to 0.069 mm in length (mean 0.060), the basis is 0.081 to 0.106 mm long (mean 0.094). The ventral end of the bifid small hooks ranges from 0.035 to 0.040 mm in diameter (Figs 9 C,D,E,G) Adult: Definitive hosts are dogs (Canis familiáris) and wolves (Canis lupus). It is a strongly developed taeniid, the strobila is 60 to 100 cm long, the maximum width of the postmature proglottides is 8 mm. The scolex is 0.690 to 1.020 mm in diameter (n=5, mean 0.875). The rostellum ranges from 0.370 to 0.440 mm (n=5, mean 0.405). The suckers are 0.200 to 0.410 mm in diameter (n= 11, mean 0.297). The number of the hooks is 28 to 33 (n=5, mean 31), situated in two rows. The large hooks are 0.202 to 0.221 mm long (mean 0.210, n=20), the handle is 0.093 to 0.112 mm long (mean 0.99), the guard is 0.059 to 0.075 mm long (mean 0.069), the basis is 0.131 to 0.156 mm in length (mean 0.148) The small hooks are 0.127 to 0.156 mm long (mean 0.139, n=20), the handle is 0.051 to 0.063 mm long (mean 0.056), the guard is 0.056 to 0.062 long (mean 0.060), the basis is 0.081 to 0.106 mm (mean 0.096) long (Figs 9 A,B,F). Male genitalia: There are 620 to 700 testes in a single dorsal layer, 0.072 x 0.082 to 0.075 x 0.092 mm. The cirrus pouch extends to the longitudinal excretory vessels but does not extend into the medullar parenchyma, in the mature proglottides it is 0.400 mm long and 0.240 wide, in postmature ones 0.480 by 0.228, and in gravid ones 0.500 x 0.243 mm, the length of the cirrus is 0.080 to 0.098 and its width is 0.036 to 0.045. The windings of the vas deferens extend to the midline of the proglottis (Fig. 6 A). Female genitalia: The two lobes of the ovary are of unequal size (0.560 by 0.480 mm in diameter). The genital atrium is 0.240 to 0.290 mm wide and 0.200 mm deep. The vagina is 0.045 to 0.060 mm wide before opening into the genital atrium, without a sphincter (Fig. 7A). After passing into the medullar parenchyma its lumen is only 0.015-0.030 mm in diameter, and it runs near and parallel with the vas deferens without a loop and ends at a seminal receptacle which ranges from 0.134 to 0.230 x 0.075 to
