Methods By type, the feeding trials were so-called "no-choice", i. e. toxicity, tests and "free choice", i. e. appetibility tests. The rodents were placed into individual cages and were conditioned for 24 hours before the start of feeding. 1. In the toxicity test the animals were given only the bait and drinking water either ad libitum or for a limited time, i. e. for 24, 48, 72 or 96 hours. Fresh test material was supplied every day. The amount of rodenticide consumed by the animals was weighed with 0.01 g precision every 24 hours. After death the rodents were weighed precisely and their body weight was recorded together with the time of death (in days) and the signs of poisoning. The toxicity of the rodenticide was determined by calculating the mean and the minimal lethal dose of the consumed bait and its active ingredient, and on the basis of the rate and time of rodent mortality.
