KEY WORDS: Acari, Tarsonemina, Acarophenax rackae, taxonomy, morphology. In this paper we describe a new Acarophenax species, collected by the junior author in Egypt. ACAROPHENACIDAE Acarophenax rackae sp. n. Measurements.- Length of body: 184-194 /urn, width of body: 130-135 i±m. Dorsal side /Fig. 1/: Body wide, rounded on both ends, approximately reversed ovoid. Comparatively large stigmae and thin peritremes clearly visible in dorsal aspect. All dorsal setae thin, mostly with fine, filiform distal part. Two pairs of the prodorsal setae long, the other two anterior pairs very short, hardly observable. 1; e long and filiform, setae f, hj, f^ and ps short. Setae e three times longer than setae f, both pairs of setae h shorter than f. Ventral side /Fig. 3/: Gnathosoma scarcely separate from the ventral surface, only the palps clearly visible. Apodemes of the anterior sternal plate strong. Sternal apodeme fused with the sejugal ones, the arch of the latter not continuous, interrupted near the sternal apodeme. A connection of the second and sejugal apodemes not clearly verifiable. Apodemes of the posterior sternal plate weakly developed, short; ap. 4 longer than ap. 3. All setae in the epimeral region long but simple, filiform. Epimeral setal formula: 1-1-2-3.
