tories of Austria and Czechoslovakia as well as in the southern regions of Poland it is frequent everywhere. The latter subspecies is reported in Hungary from many localities of Transdanubia mainly from Soricidae, more rarely from several representatives of Muridae but only where its true hosts, the Soricidae thrive. The occurrence of the third subspecies of the Continent, the P. soricis starki Wagner, is known roughly to the east of the 20-th degree of longitude from Scandinavia to Roumania, but hitherto we have not had yet from our fauna any conclusive specimen. In August and September, 1974 I found several specimens of P. soricis starki on several exemplars of Sorex araneus and, in one case, on Apodemus flavicollis from the forest at Ujszentmargita in the northern part of Hortobágy. In the material coUected there, there were also several specimens of P. s. rosickyi x P. s. starki, which proves the connection of areas of both subspecies. In September 1976 further specimens were found in the above mentioned locality, further in the environs of Hortobágy fisheries from Sorex araneus as well as from the environs of Nagyiván from Apodemus microps. These data supplement the findings of SMIT (1960), concerning the continental occurrence of the subspecies of P. soricis. The number of flea species and subspecies known in the territory of Hungary has increased with the above described three taxa to 61. All three of them are mentioned in the volume Siphonaptera (SZABO, 1975) Fauna Hungáriáé among those to be expected. Reference* SMIT, F.
