Redeseription of Rictularia cahirensis Jagerskiöld, 1904 from the Cat (Felis domesticus) from Jodhpur, India Dr. S. N. ARYA Department of Zoology, Birla Vidya Mainiir. Nainital (U.P.), India "Redescription of Rictularia cahirensis Jagerskiöld, 1904 from the cat, Felis domesticus from Jodhpur, India" - Arya, S.N. - Parasit. Hung. 12. 87-89. 1979. ABSTRACT. Rictularia cahirensis Jagerskiöld, 1904 (Nematoda) is described on the basis of a specimen infesting .domestic cat in Jodhpur (India). The most important features of these species are discussed in detail. In a survey of nematode parasites from vertebrates in Rajasthan Desert, India, one female specimen of the genus Rictularia Froelich, 1802 was obtained from the intestine of the cat, Felis domesticus. The detailed study of the present material reveals that it belongs to Rictular ia cahirensis Jagerskiöld, 1904. Material and Method Nematode was fixed in glacial acetic acid, stored in a mixture of 70% ethyl alcohol containing 10% glycerin by volume, transferred to lactophenol for clearing and studied in glycerin mounts after the evaporation of the alcohol. Drawings were made with the help of camera lucida. All measurements are given in mm. Rictularia cahirensis Jagerskiöld, 1904 (Figs. 1-4) Worm soft, pale white and attenuated posteriorly. Length 12; maximum thickness 0.24. Mouth subterminal, without lips opening dorsally by a large transversely elongated aperture bordered with 8 small denticles. Buccal capsule well developed and chitinized 0.05 x 0.03: ventral wall of buccal capsule almost twice as long as the dorsal. A pair of teeth project out from the floor of the buccal capsule. Two pairs of cephalic papillae present. Oesophagus, measures 2.0 x 0.09, separated from the intestine by an oesophago-intestinal valve. Cuticle thick, exphanded somewhat in the anterior region, making a dorsal alae. Total number of combs and spines 126, out of which 47 are prevulvar and 79 postvulvar. Tail 0.18 long, tapering and pointed with a short spine at the tip. Nerve ring at 0.25 from anterior end. Excretory pore invisible. Vulva flush and without lips; postoesophageal and preequatorial at 2. 4 from anterior end. Vagina posteriad and non-muscular . Eggs oval-shaped, thick-walled and embryonated; measures 0.028-0.031 x0.020-0.022. Host: Felis domesticus. - Location: intestine. - Locality: Jodhpur, Rajasthan Desert, India. Remark* Due to the inclination of the oral opening as dorsal and total number of combs and spines as 126, out of which 47 are prevulvar, the present form belongs to Rictularia cahirensis Jagerskiöld, 1904. BAYLIS, 1939 was the first to report R. cahirensis from civet cat
