Discussion Between 1964 and 19 76, a parasitological investigation of 485 C. glareolus has been carried out. Occurrence of the following ten nematodes was established: Heligmosomum mix- turn, Heligmosomoides glareoli , H. polygyrus polygyrus , Trichostrongylus retortaeformis, Angiostrongylus (P. ) dujardini, Mastophorus muris, Syphacia petrusewiczi, S. nigeriana, Capillaria annulosa, Trichocephalus muris. H. mixtum and H. glareoli were the commonest of the above species, A. dujardini and M. muris have been found only in some particular localities, though with a comparatively high extensity of infection. The distribution of the localities is rather uneven, e.g. there are no data from the N. Central Mountains. There are numerous localities with just a few mammals collected, moreover, these are mostly negative. This could be one of the reasons why the nematode infection was lower than expected on the ground of data published in the literature and gathered from a more extensive material. The parasitic nematode fauna of C. glareolus well suits into the European faunal picture. Almost all species occurring in the neighbouring countries are also present in Hungary, see PFALLER, 1973; PROKOPld and GENOV, 1974; TENORA and ZEJDA, 1974 and other literature cited in these publications. Disregarding the nomenclatural changes during the recent years, there are also exceptions which are probably due to the different geographical circumstances and to the fact in these regions C. glareolus has a different coexisting mammal species.
