Siphonaptera from Some Rodents in Eastern Mongolia Dr. Frans G. A. SMIT British Museum (Natural History), London "Siphonaptera from Some Rodents in Eastern Mongolia" Smit, P.G.A. - Parasit. Hung. 7. 169-172.1974. ABSTRACT. The paper submits the list of 9 Siphonapteraspecies, obtained from 50 specimens of three species of small rodents, collected by P. MÉSZÁROS in Mongolia. Dr. P. MÉSZÁROS, of the Natural History Museum, Budapest, went to Mongolia in 1972 mainly to collect parasitic helminths and free-living insects. He put out some traps there during nine nights in the period of 7-17 August. Thus he returned with 123 fleas, representing 9 species, obtained from 50 specimens of three species of small rodents (Microtus brandtii /Radde/, Alticola roylei /Gray/ and Cricetulus barabensis /Pallas/). Nearly all rodents were trapped in the outskirts of Barun Urt (Baruun Urta), 46.48 N 113-18 E (170 KM S. S.W.of Choybalsan). Sühe Baatar aimak, at altitudes varying from 1090 to 1240 m. A few specimens came from the bank of the Herl en (Hereleng or Kerulen) river at 900 m.; for those specimens the locality name has been added below. This collection of fleas adds another species to the faunal list of fleas of that country, bringing the total number to 113. The occurrence of parasitic nematodes in fleas in Mongolia is noticed here for the first time. It is of some interest to observe that so far there are still no records of the occurrence of the following ubiquitous fleas in Mongolia: the dog-flea Ctenocephalides canis (Curtis), the cat-flea Ctenocephalides
