Van Strydonck, 1965, P.dollfusi Van Strydonck, 1965, and P. bu cephalae Yamaguti, 1935, have been found in Europe. The first three species were collected from swans(Cygnus cygnus, C. olor) by ISKOVA (1966) in Ukraine, the other species from water birds by VAN STRYDONCK in Belgium (1965). On the basis of the measurements and morphologic features, the Paramonostomum specimen from Hungary stand nearer to P. buce phalae Yamaguti, 1935, than to the other species. Genital pore immediately postbifureal.Vitellary glands approaching the basis of the cirrus-sac, as in the specimens described by YAMAGUTI from Japan. Cirrus covered with chitinous spines and scales. Very conspicious in our fluke specimen is the length of the caeca, passing beyond the testes, while those of the type-specimens approach only the caudal end of testes. There is a difference between the individuals from Hungary and Japan: the number of the whorls of the uterus is only 13 in the specimen from Hungary whereas 15 in the type-specimen. The body of the Hungarian specimen is squatter than that of the type-specimen. Despite the differences, on the basis of the identity of the measurements, the spinous cirrus, the localization of the vitellary glands and of the genital pore, I assign our exemplar, collected from a coot, to Paramonostomum bucephalae Yamaguti, 1935« The species published by ISKOVA (1966) from swans as P_. elongatum is also P . bucephalae . Its measurements, the spinous cirrus-sac and the postbifurcal position of the genital pore substantiate the synonymy. In the opinion of ISKOVA, the features of the specimens reported by her differ from the features of the type of P. elongatum , but, according to her, these differences are not expressive. Accordingly, P. bucephalae Yamaguti, 1935, should be regarded as a junior synonym of P. elonga tum , but ISKOVA did not discuss this problem. The morphological distinctness between the two species contradicts the synonymy.
