Parasit.Hung. 3. 77-86.1970 Sphexicozela connivens gen.n., sp. n. (Acari, Acaridoidea); a New Mite from a Wasp Nest Dr. Sándor MAHUNKA Zoological Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest When examining nests of Social Paper Wasps (Vespidae), great numbers of individuals - in all developmental stages - of a new mite were found in the empty and inhabited cells of a nest of Polystes gallica (Linné, 1758). The imagos, protonymphs, and larvae occurred invariably in the accumulated detritus and discharge on the bottom of the empty cells of the nest, whereas the majority of the deutonymphs adhered to the „ pupal skin" of the wasp larvae developing in the inhabited cells. In the collected material of the population, imagos were represented in merely a very small number (3 females and 1 male), while the great number of protonymphs was rather striking, and the more so as many of them already contained the metamorphosing deutonymph. Wholly developed deutonymphs were also numerous. Both the genus and the species proved to be new for science; their description is as follows. Sphexicozela gen.n. Imaginai propodosoma with a sharply defined large propodosomatic shield, its posterior third with a discernible crest-shaped transverse protuberance. Major portion of body covered with a granulous cerotegument . Inner scapular hair of propodosoma and all dorsal hairs of hysterosoma modified into a short, conical spine; gradually attenuating true hairs occurring only on propodosoma and ventral side of hysterosoma. Male genital organ
