fixed, in natural position and with relaxed musculature). Nor does SKRIABIN ' s Identification key (p. 94) hold true, since It is based also on the discontiguity of the vitellary glands, as a characteristic of the genus. The genus Rubenstrema is distinguished from Plagiorchis by the situation of the uterus, from Opisthioglyphe looss, 1899, by the absence of the prepharynx and the oesophagus , and the difpcy ent position of the vitellary glands, from Neoglyphe Schaldybin, b 1^54, by the absence of the prepharynx, the different position of the cirrus sac, and the fact that in Rubenstrema the uterus extends between the testes. Nor could the species assigned to Rubenstrema be relegated to the genus Dolichosaccus Johnston, 1912, since the oesophagus is absent and the metraterm present (absent in Dolichosaccus ) . SKRIABIN assigned (1966) the genus Rubenstrema to the subfamily Omphalometrinae Looss, 1899, and the family Omphalometridae Odening, I960. His action is contestable, since in the following features the diagnosis of the genus Rubenstrema contradicts that of the family Omphalometridae (SKRIABIN, p. 93; ODENING, I960, p. 68): Omphalometridae 1. Uterus situated in front of anterior testis; 2. Testes situated medially, one behind the other. Rubenstrema 1. Uterus projecting beyond anterior testis and extending between the two testes; 2. Testes situated diagonally, their longitudinal axis subtending an angle. It should be noted that the excretory system of R. opisthovi tellinum is not known at all, and also that of R. exasperatum is hardly studied - and it is the structure of the excretory system which plays an important part in the diagnosis of the
