SZÁM ANTAL GERGELY SÁRKÖZI Dániel Tóth’s life and work as a librarian The author is a church historian, his main field of research is the history of the Transdanubian Reformed Church District’ Library. In his previous study published in the i-2nd issue of the journal volume 2021 he dealt with the activity of the librarian, István Rózsa. In his current study he worked out the career of Dániel Tóth as a teacher and librarian. In the introductory part of the study, he dealt with the life of Dániel Tóth (1832-1900) coming from a clerical family, in the second part he introduced his work as a grammar-school teacher and a professor of divinity, in the third part he wrote about his life as a librarian (1877-1897). Dániel Tóth was a highly trained and educated teacher, he also studied law and teology, later he carried on his studies at the universities of Utrecht and Geneva. Besides speaking the classical languages, he spoke German, French and English at a high level. He was considered an outstanding teacher. As a librarian he enriched the collection of the library in every possible way, catalogued the books, served the readers. He did not write books, he lived for his family and profession, setting a good example for the next generations. 32
