While doing research, she recog­nised that however much we know about the life of the greatest Hungarian poet of the era called Csokonai family starts from the year of 1656. Miklós Csokonyai the ancestor of the poet was a reformed vicar in Csokonya, Somogy county. His great-grandfather Ferenc Csokonyai (Csokonai) (1658-1722), and his grandfather László Csokonai (roughly 1697-1762) were also vicars while his father József Csokonai (1747-1786) chose a different trade. He learnt to be a barber and a chirurgeon and settled in Debrecen where he made a successful career. The author introduces the relatives of the poet’s family living in the Transdanubian region in the i8-i9th centuries by using birth certificates issued by the church and other documents.
