-2 MŰHELY sACTA PaPENSIA XVII (2017) 1-2. SZÁM Summary Zsolt Simon FAMILY PERUTZ IN PÁPA The Perutz family from Bohemia built up its textile producing empire throughout Europe in three generations. They expanded their business activity in the United States as well after World War Two. They established their first textile manufacture in Prague in 1862. Their Budapest branch was opened in 1892, and their textile factory in Pápa began producing in 1901. Their factory was brought under state control in 1948, Félix Perutz in fear of being arrested moved to Vienna on ist December, 1948. During the 50 years the Perutz family spent in Pápa they acted as the biggest employers in the town providing the locals with jobs in their business. They invested money in 55 enterprises to ensure their leading position in business. With their investments they improved the social, cultural and sport activities in town. A large amount of their profit was spent on charity. They also built a sport stadium and supported the local charity organisations and sport clubs.
