Scientific evaluation of István Pathai as a liturgist

István Pathai superintendent of the Trans-Danubian Church District, published a Service Book in 1617, described among Old Hungarian Prints (RMNy 1143A), that was unknown before 1978. In her doctoral thesis (1980, republished in 2014) Judit Csiba Czellámé produced the first monograph of the said person’s life and as well evaluated his liturgical activity. However she was not critical enough concerning the method and data in using and quoting from an earlier desk book by Sándor Benedek (i. e. The History of Service in the Reformed Church in Hungary, 1971), and so inadequate ideas and bibliographical mistakes slipped into her work. Now these are exhibited in main lines, and corrected. At the same time warning is expressed for the uncritical future use of such methods.
