The lightning war of Adolf von Schwarzenberg at the end of July and at the beginning of August in the year 1598

In the history of the Fifteeen Year Long War the year 1597 was not the most successful one for the Habsburg Monarchy. Although the Christian armies recaptured Pápa from the Turkish forces, the siege of Győr considered to be the gate of Vienna, proved to be a failure. Győr could be recaptured only on 28-29th March, 1598. In the summer of 1598 the army commanded by Adolf von Schwarzenberg also recaptured the castle of Tata, Gesztes, Csókakő, Palota, Veszprém, Vázsony and Tihany, all of which belonged to the defence system of Győr, and in this way it paved the road to the siege of the most important osman town, Buda, in the autumn the same year. The archivist author gives a detailed description of the organisation, leading, and warfooting of the army forces, and of the moments of the transdanubian military campaign as well.
