Summary JÓZSEF HUDI Lajos Kacz's Years in Pápa (1861-18671 As a historical periodical, the Acta Papensia, has regularly published memoirs during the recent years illuminating some important periods of the history of the Pápa Reformed College. Coming from a poor noble family, Lajos Kacz (1844-1921), wrote his memoirs at the beginning of World War II, after he had retired. The first, Pápa chapter of it is now published along with an introductory essay by József Hudi, a historian and archavist. Bom in the town of Komárom, Kacz finished the 5th and 6th grades of his grammar school studies in Pápa and then here he started studying theology. He finished his theological studies in Pest. Then he got a scholarship to study in the Netherlands at the university of Utrecht. However, after returning home he did not serve as a pastor but due to his mother's bad financial situation he became a clerk. From 1875 he worked as the deputy notary of the town of Komárom and then from 1876 to 1914, when he retired, as the notary of the town. His son, Endre Komáromi Kacz inherited his talents and became a famous painter. The Pápa chapter of Lajos Kacz's memoir presents the atmosphere of the small town during the 1860s, the operation of the College, the colourful life of the students. The publication is an important contribution to the cultural history of the Protestant colleges in Hungary. Acta Papensia VIII (2008) 1-2. 89
