From 1838 the album was owned by the grammar school of Máramarossziget (Sighetul Marmatiei, Romania) but after the nationalization of the school the album disappeared. It was not long ago that we were able to find it in the archives of manuscripts in the Gheorge Asachi County Library located in the town of Iasi, Romania. The lutheran Martinus Weigmann, the owner of the album, was bom in Bártfa, Hungary (today it is Bardejov, Slovakia). As it is well-known, Bártfa used to be one of the earliest and strongest bastions of reformation in the 16th Century Hungary. One of the most influential representatives of the Upper-Hungarian lutheran church, Leonhard Stöckel, who maintained close ties with Philipp Melanchton and launched one of the most important schools of the period, worked here. Leonhard Stöckel, who started his five-year foreign studies in 1598/99, was a student of the Bártfa school.
