Seventeen thousand meters of historical source/Introduction of the main archives
A In the archive of the State Land Surveying Inspectorate, which operated on the area oi Nógrád and Hont hundreds, generated (1864—) 1924 and 1939, the archive related to the one-time villages of Szob and Vamosmikola can be found. Riding boundary descriptions, coloured maps, lists of purlieu and street names, owner and house censuses, soil use descriptions and notes taken during land surveying special works can be found in the really valuable document set, which are interesting from the point oi view of local historiography. MAIN ARCIIIVH UNIT VII - RFTTIONAL OR< IANIZATION OF JURISDICTION Courts, prosecutions, convict stations and prisons belong here. From the Pest Vicinity Royal Tribunal (from 1872 to 1950, almost 400 hn) it is mainly the land registration documents that remained to the highest extent. However, the reference books of the 230 linear meters of land registration documents are so fragmentary, that these documents - which cover the years 1872-1914 - had to be reorganised. All settlements received one number, and under this all documents concerning the given settlement are collected. This iacilitates the work of the local historians; they find the documents of a given village at one location. From the ten district courts operating on the area of the hundred approximately 350 linear meters were preserved. We received all of them in an extremely incomplete state. Researching them is rather difficult, as in most cases the reference books are missing as well. At the district courts the civil and criminal documents were registered and therefore handled under different number-frame, while the extrajudicial cases were sometimes handled together with the civil ones, other times with the criminal ones. In the knits of our Archives units besides these land-registration and notary documents can be found as well, but these are not significant. From the documents of the prosecution, some were received only írom the Pest Vicinity Royal Prosecution (approx. 24 lm), but those, due to the completely missing reference books, can only be researched by checking them one by one. In the area of Pest County, national convict stations were operating in Vác and Márianosztra. While the archive of the institute in Márianosztra, keeping female prisoners were taken over by the legal successor in Kalocsa (our Archives keeps only one annual report from the past of the institute), the historic documents of the legal predecessors of the current national convict station with its centre in Vác, namely of the Vác Royal National Convict Station generated between 1855 and 1944 (-1949) can be found in our Archives. From prison documents the Pest Vicinity Royal Judicial Prison keeps in our safeguard a length of 18,80 linear meters from the period between 1906 and 1949. 182
