From the history of Pest County
Following the expulsion of the Turks, the county became populated relatively fast. The medium landowner nobles, who had held leading positions earlier on the Royal territories, the Ráday, the Wattay, the Beniczky, the Fáy families returned and they kept their positions after their return. Besides them, due to the activities of the so-called new acquisition committee (neoquistica commissio), a new landowner stratum became to be formed. (Grassalkovich Antal and his companion). Transmigration started from different parts of the Royal country also into this county. Devastated villages revived one by one newcomers started to plough the lands again. The landowners started colonization of foreigners as well. The ancestors of those Serbs, Germans (Swabians), Slovakians, living in the current areas of the county came here at that time. The organization of the noblemen's county had also resettled. They bought a Central House in Pest, in 1697 and the county public administration started functioning in the same area since then. The new county hall, a still functioning classical style, important historic building, was built in three periods by the inhabitants of the county between 1804 and 1841. Internal division o( the county into four districts took place at the beginning of the 18 th century. They were namely the Vác, the Solt, the Kecskemét and the Pilis districts, with the magistrates at the lead of them. 147 A Szíra család nemesi oklevele (1718) Adehbrief der Familie Szira (1718) Nobility certificate of the Szira family (1718) <
