AZ ORSZÁGOS SZÉCHÉNYI KÖNYVTÁR ÉVKÖNYVE 1994-1998. Budapest (2000)

III. Könyvtörténeti és művelődéstörténeti tanulmányok - V. Ecsedy Judit: A pozsonyi jezsuita kollégiumi nyomda (1623-1652) - The Press of the Jesuit College in Pozsony (1623-1652)

THE PRESS OF THE JESUIT COLLEGE IN POZSONY (1623-1652) J. V. ECSEDY The author gives a survey of the activity of the Jesuit College Press in Pozsony (today Bratislava, Slovakia) from its foundation by Cardinal Péter Pázmány until its last year. For more than two decades when Protestant typographies were overwhelming it was the only Catholic Press in Hungary. Earlier scholars were only so far interested in this relatively short-lived press at it served as a basis for the - similarly Jesuit - University Press in Nagyszombat. Though Jakab Némethi the Jesuit father in charge of the Press was an excellent master of his art and the activity of the typography during his leadership deserves more attention. It was just this press that issued one of the finest of the altogether very few emblem-books printed in Hungary (Szíves könyvecske, 1642). The author reconstructs the typographical equipment (fonts, ornaments, etc.) of the Jesuit Press in Pozsony, also reveals some contemporary sources about the activity of the Press unknown and unpublished so far. 392
